Using ParksTool Without a Computer — TRS MIDI and Standalone Mode

Every ParksTool device works over USB — plug in, configure once with the web tool, and it's a standard USB MIDI device. But most models also carry a 3.5mm TRS MIDI OUT jack, which opens up a different way of working: no computer required. (Eception: 1ES2K model doesn't have TRS port)

What TRS MIDI OUT Does

TRS MIDI OUT lets you send MIDI signals directly to hardware — synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, effects units — using a standard 3.5mm TRS cable and a TRS-to-DIN adapter (or a device with a native 3.5mm MIDI input). The device draws power from USB (any phone charger or power bank works), and the MIDI signal goes out the TRS jack.

The configuration is the same as USB: set it up once in the web tool, and it runs independently from then on. There's no host device in the chain — the ParksTool outputs MIDI directly.

TRS Type A / B

There are two wiring standards for TRS MIDI: Type A and Type B. ParksTool devices include a switch to toggle between them, so compatibility isn't a concern — check your hardware's manual to see which type it expects, and flip the switch accordingly.

Practical Uses

• Pedalboard controller — power from a USB port on your board, send MIDI to pedals or a switcher
• Hardware synth control — run an encoder or fader directly into a synthesizer's MIDI IN
• Live rig — no laptop needed; the controller runs from a battery pack

The 1ES2K is the one exception — it outputs over USB only and does not have a TRS jack. All other current models include TRS MIDI OUT.
