ParksTool Uploader Privacy Policy

ParksTool Uploader — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-17

This Privacy Policy explains what data the ParksTool Uploader desktop application (“the Software”) processes and why. We keep this to a minimum: the Software has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking.

1. Who is responsible

ParksTool Oy, Finland — contact@parkstool.com. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, email us at that address.

2. What we process, and when

a) Automatically, to check for and download updates and firmware. When the Software checks for a newer version, loads the hardware registry, or downloads firmware, it makes HTTPS requests to:

  • config.parkstool.com (ParksTool) — hardware registry;
  • gitlab.com (GitLab Inc., our release host) — firmware releases and the Uploader’s own updates.

These requests necessarily transmit your IP address and standard request metadata (e.g. time, requested file). We do not attach any identifier to you and do not build a profile.

b) Only if you use the Feedback tab (voluntary). The Feedback tab embeds a form hosted by Google (Google LLC). If you choose to submit it, it sends:

  • diagnostics we prefill and show you first (and you can edit): Uploader version, operating system, and — if available — your device’s hardware number, firmware version, MIDI device name, and the most recent lines of the on-screen log;
  • any message and contact details you type into the form yourself.

If you never open or submit the Feedback form, none of (b) is sent. We do not collect your files, keystrokes, or any data beyond the above.

3. Why we process it (legal basis, GDPR Art. 6)

  • Update/firmware requests (2a): our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in delivering firmware, updates, and security fixes for devices you own, and your interest in receiving them.
  • Feedback (2b): your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), given by voluntarily submitting the form, and our legitimate interest in providing support.

4. Who else is involved

  • GitLab Inc. — hosts the firmware and Uploader releases. Receives request metadata (including IP) when the Software contacts gitlab.com.
  • Google LLC — hosts the Feedback form. Receives what you submit through it.

These providers act on our behalf as processors and/or as independent controllers for their own infrastructure logs. Where they process data outside the EU/EEA (for example in the United States), transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

5. Retention

  • Update and firmware request logs are kept by our providers (GitLab, Google) under their own log-retention policies; ParksTool does not keep its own copy.
  • Feedback submissions are kept only as long as needed to handle your request, and are deleted at the latest 24 months after the matter is resolved.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You may withdraw consent for the Feedback processing at any time (this does not affect prior processing). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Finland, the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto, tietosuoja.fi).

7. Automated decisions, profiling, selling

We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell your personal data.

8. Children

The Software is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date shows the current version. Material changes will be reflected here.
